How to get out a small plastic car that's been flushed down the toilet?

I think my son flushed a small plastic car http://www.hasbro.com/playskool/default.cfm?page=browse&product_id=18313 down the toilet, and it won't flush now, we can plunge it for 5-10 min to get the water down, but we have to do that EVERY time. We've tried sticking our hand down but it's farther than we can reach. Any home remedy ideas I can try before I have to call a plumber?

You could try a drain snake, you can buy these at hardware stores, usually a cable that you can insert and twist good for clogs. Once you get it flushing you should have a drain trap somewhere in the line, these types of oblject usually end up in the traps.

try a toilet snake,they work pretty good,you can p/u one at the hardware store also try a clothes hanger extended out, leave the hook on the end.try an hook it .but if all else fails,pull the toilet. last resort only.

get a snake which is a tool that brings stuff out of the toilet.there is also a very inexpensive plastic gadget called the zip. it is in the toilet section of walmart and home depot .it is awesome for toilets tub and sink drains.you wont believe your eyes how much of our hair gets caught up down there.it should also get the car and it costs less than 5 dollars,where a snake is an expensive tool. if you live in an apartment building the superintendant should have a snake or the landlord.

It depends how far the toy has got before it became stuck , try something like some thick wire which will go round the bend to see if you locate it .....a wire coat hanger opened out may do the trick ...good luck

turn the water off to the toilet then unscrew the toilet from the floor.Lift the toilet from the floor. someone with a small hand will have to reach in the bottom of the toilet & pull the toy out.

we had to do this when a toothbrush was accidentaly dropped while the toilet was flushing

You could try a closet snake which is available at most hardware stores. However, experience has taught that plastic items often part to allow the snake to pass instead of breaking up. If your lucky, the item will sometimes withdraw with the snake when you remove it. The most dependable method is to dismantle the water closet. I recommend you replace the wax ring seal when restoring the water closet.

toilet auger you mite be able to get it thatway in pcs ive done it before keep going down and grabbing parts of it worst case  is pulling the toilet turn it upside down push it thru that way gl

Turn off the water, drain the tank,diconnect the water line, and unbolt the toilet.  Then look to see where it is.
