How to get out of jury duty?

seriously. I can't believe they summoned ME for jury duty. I don't even vote! any ideas? what if I have to go offshore for work, can I use that as an excuse?

I've always told them it would cause me financial hardship and they let me go. I've heard others say they were trying to find a job and jury duty keeps them from finding a job. if you dont wanna go you have to find a good excuse that you know ill work. I HATE going and i dont care what others say about it's your civic duty and all that...whatever! they all can just pay me for my lost wages. oh and it has nothing to do with voting.

If you have to go, request a coroner's jury.

You'll probably be out in a day.

Just say you're racist or something else that is totally socially unacceptable...they tend to let you go for that.

Our civics system is flawed. If you really wanna get out of serving a plan and judgment of someone tell them you are racist. Unless the crime you are in the jury for is severe.

You may even find out that 'it is important' to someone to be tried by a jury of thier peers.

The only way to get out of it BEFORE you actually go is a disability.You can put it off for up to one year.Pick a Friday,they hardly ever start a new case on Fridays. The judges and lawyers all want to go home too.

Once you show up,you can get out of serving by saying you are prejudice in any way. In our state,you get a number and call the night before your serving date,and a recording will state which numbers don't have to come in, you MAY luck out and not have to show up after all.

I do not believe anyone got out of it due to financial hardship,you do get paid to serve.It isn't much but,even if you are looking for a job,they will just make you change the date you serve.As I said,you have up to a year to change it.

the offshore thing might work, the judge can release you at your request, or at the request of one of the attorneys (if all my law movie watching serves me well). You could try to act very bias, if the case is about saving the whales, wear a tee shirt that says nuke the whales. PS. from jury selction, not many actually end up on the jury.

PPS. Shame on you for trying to get out of jury duty, its your civic duty.

No. Work is not a valid reason to be excused from jury duty.  The best thing to do is send them a letter telling them you no longer live in the state.  They won't check.
