  1. I agree with Stu. If you really want to act then sometimes you have to play characters that are far removed from your actual personality. Stu was correct. It really does take intelligence and skill to play a "stupid" character. This part may be one of the best acting lessons in your life. Let go of self consciousness. ( VERY important in acting!)The best comedians and actors are bold. They are not afraid to look like doofuses. Who's judging you anyway? Is it somebody dumb enough to believe that the character you are portraying is actually the real you? And who cares what people think anyway.

Commit to the part. Have fun. However, if you REALLY want to back out then I would suggest being totally honest. Say you are uncomfortable with the part. It's better than lying.

  2. You don't.  You will look like a bigger idiot if you quit.

  3. If you ever want to be cast in anything ever again, don't quit.  There are no small parts, only small actors.  Talk to the director about how you feel about the part and see if you can tweak the character any so you're happier with it.  I'm working on a production of Arsenic and Old Lace at the moment where one of the actors is playing a character who is completely mad - thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt and digs locks for the Panama canal in the cellar, blows bugle calls all through the play, charges up the stairs like it's a military advance, and just generally plays completely nutty.  Does it make him look like an idiot?  No.  It makes him look like a very good actor.  What you see and what others see may not be the same.

  4. Hey, remember, when you act it is not you. You are not stupid, you're playing a stupid person - which takes a clever person.

  5. Ha I would just try it. I mean it puts you further along on the road to acting, but if you really hate it fake a illness for a long period of time. LOL You should say you have laryngitis! That way you can just pretend you can't talk, simple and no one asks questions (literally).

    Hehe :)

  6. As long as you are smart on the inside, it shouldn't matter. What you have, I presume, is a comedic role, and possibly one that is a bit over the top. My advice is to try it, because it is great acting experience, and because the part is supposed to make you look like an idiot. When people see the show, they will know that it's all script and not really you. If you really feel the need to drop out, first talk to your director and try to compromise, or quit.

PS - Be sure to inform the director that you are quitting, or else they will just think you're sick and not think to cast someone else. NEVER p**s off the director!

  7. Be honest. explain to your teacher that your not comfortable they can't make you do something that you don't wan't to do. maybe suggest a comprimise? your obviously like drama so try to be proffessional about the situation. from experiance me and ma m8 have been in the same situation but carried on with the role and in the end twas GR8!

keep going and believe in your self maybe its best to carrie on with the role 't may not b as bad as you think.

       i know you'll do wats best 4 u. c ya hon!xx:)

  8. if you feel stupid when you act, you're doing it right. have some faith in yourself, and don't quit.

  9. First of all, life is all about having fun so take a chance and do the play anyways. Who cares what people think of you. You are who you are and they can just get over it. Hope that helped.= ]

    Good Luck!

p.s. then again just do whatever makes you happy. Yeah I know that sounds lame but trust me.

  10. talk to the directer about he/she might change the part.
