  1. You can increase your jumping power by exercising your leg muscles, doing toe jumping jacks, and jumping onto a stair or two, back down, and jumping back up. This is probably one of the more important aspects of flipping because you need to be able to get height or you will fall short of full rotation.

Also, you may want to do front flips first to see how you fare. When you feel you are ready try to do a back flip on a soft surface that won't hurt if you mess up. A pool or trampoline can be good for this.

  2. check the gymnastics board. anyone performing backflips as part of martial arts training is doing performance art not fighting applications, as such it belongs in the drama section.

  3. Backflips are more of a Gymnastics question than Martial Arts.  You may want to re-ask in that section.

Before trying this on the ground, I recommend doing it on a thickly padded mat like at a gymnastics school.

You'll also want a coach to help make sure you flip fully - landing on your head/neck could paralyze you.

I'm sure you can find a coach that will help you learn what you want without going through the entire class - you'll have to pay for it, but it's worth the investment to learn safely and correctly.

  4. Do your flips into a pool, on a trampoline, or on a surface that wont hurt you. Doing a backflip can have some risk on the neck. If not dont right or not on a soft surface it can break your neck, but if you how to do it and your practicing it on a soft surface then your ok. Try starting with the pool cause if you do it into a pool it wont hurt what so ever, then do it in a trampoline cause it might hurt a little if you land on your neck but the injury is no worse then a pinch. You cant do a flip with fear distracting you so you have to give it all you got.

  5. it is better to get a mat on the ground and all you do is bascially jump high and ride the jump (pull your arms hard up) and tuck backwards........ dont fling your head back though that would s***w up the whole tuck

  6. try doing a flip into a pool or on a trampling. You could also try doing summer salts to get the feel.
