If you talk a lot, people are less likely to listen, but if you only talk when you have something to say, then say it in a low tone, people will generally get quiet to hear what you are saying.

Wow, I wish I knew the answer to that one!

The best way is to trick them into listening, such as by sneaking your message into a movie, a song, or a book.

For example:  You want to tell people that the world should eliminate all religions and all nations to live in a global, secular society.  Nobody would listen to you.  However, you could write a song by John Lennon called, "Imagine" and suddenly everyone is singing along, they have heard your message and they have internalized it.

For one-on-one listening, you still should trick them.  For example, ask them questions about themselves.  Then, ask them how they would respond to (insert idea here).  They get to blab on about their opinion, but you have just got them thinking.

It is all about tricking people.

Don't force them to adhere to your thoughts. Respect them and be honest and sincere with them.
