How to get pictures off a broken memory card?

I have a Sony DSC-P72. It's about three years old but I haven't had any problems with it. This past week I went up to a camp and took a lot of pictures. Midway through camp I went to look at my pictures and I got a c:13:01 format error screen. I just switched memory sticks (256mb Lexars) and it worked fine. When I got to upload my pics (over a hundred) I can't get them because I still get an error screen. I know its the memory stick and not the camera cause i switched sticks and it worked fine. anyway to get my pics without losing them?

  1. If there's no physical damage to the card, sometimes a memory card reader can get data off a card when the device can't. They're cheap, give it shot.

  2. You are in luck, my friend (at least you have better chances than many others in your shoes)!

Lexar is one of the few memory card manufacturers that actually stands behind their products. Call their customer service, they'll give you an RMA and an address to mail your broken card to. Their technician will examine the card, and if there's anything physically recoverable from the card they'll save it on a CD and mail it back to you along with the new card.

This is the main reason why I always buy the more expensive Lexar cards for my cameras.

Here's the Lexar contact information for you:

    Give them a call!

    Good luck,

    LEM.
