How to get power on a slice-serve?

Mine never seems to make it over the net, it's always short.

How can I add more power to it?

Is it too hard to explain on here?

  1. The key is in the wrist snap action.  You get slice by how you hold the racquet, but its the snapping action of the wrist that will give you racquet head speed, which will give your slice some power.

  2. you need to hit more on the middle not so much on the side.

your probably getting too much spin

  3. Getting it over the net has nothing to do with power when freferring to a slice serve.  What is happening is that you are merely slicing the ball but you are not putting a forward motion to it.  Besides the slice, you must push the ball forward either uising your arm or better yet leaning forward to transfer your weight balance to your front foot.  Next, most people use a slice serve as a second serve and become extremely careful in doing so.  While being extra careful is good, you must not slow down your stroke on a slice serve, on the contrary, you must accelerate your racket head speed on a slice serve.  The flight of a slice serve is one that clears the net with a good height distance and the trajectory is a loop so it minimizes the possibility of it landing outside the service box.  It is why so many use it as a second serve.  so there is no reason why you should net it unless you are not shifting your weight forward, not pushing it forward, slicing it to thinly or are being too careful.

  4. if you can hit your flat serves over the net, logically you should be able to hit slice as well. the basic idea of slice serve is to brush the ball using you stringbed with some angle. now before you put more angle to your slice, exercise the less angle first. try to hit your flat serve as usual, aiming to the service box outer corner. you will find your stringbed is slightly angled during the serve. practice this until you can put more power to your serve.

then try to slice the ball just a bit. when you slice, you will need to aim a bit to the middle of the court. the more angle you put in your slice, the more to the middle you need to aim. gradually add more angle to your slice. and everytime, put more and more power to the serve.

    hope it helps :)
