Okay, so I'm in Junior High this year. I start school tomorrow. I am trying out for basketball when the seasons here. I know how to shoot and dribble, but what else do you NEED to know how to do? What happens at try-outs? Experienced answers please. No rude comments!

Thanks!

  1. Practice passing and nice creative crossover moves if you already know how to shoot and dribble.

  2. quickness is needed its needed for defense.

communication having the ability to work with other girls.

in try outs all they do is see what you are capable of doing and see if your good enough or not.

ive been through this so if you have those skills youll probably make it..

  3. hey

well how Long have you been playing basketball

most juniors play on varsity but if this is your first time playing basketball then you should just aim for jv

well everyone probably knows how to shoot and dribble the question is can you do it when your out of breath running up and down the court under tight defense.

you should focus on not only our skills but your basketball iq like know where your teammates are on the court and see open screens

also make sure if not anything you make all your layups and and foul shots those are the most important

since you are a junior they are going to expect you to know how to dribble well and drive in the lane and make little  jumpers and also really buckle down on the defense

at try outs coaches mostly run drills and make you run suicides and baseline to baseline and defensive slides

just make sure you are in basketball shape... so that doesn't mean go out and run 5 miles that means go and run suicides and sprints and things of those nature... you should just run 1.5 miles don't jog but do a light sprint

the last thing coaches do at the end of try outs is scrimmage wich is a pick up game...

make sure you drink a lot of fluids before tryouts

good luck and i hope i helped

  4. Its good to see that you are trying out.

I know you know how to shoot, but you need to be able to make many in a row, so just practice that.

Practice jump shots, and layups from both sides of the hoop

run, run, run, in Junior high, if you can run your in the best shape to make the team.

    What you should do

run about 2-3 miles a day, or run an hr

    100 jump shots

    100 free throws

    50 layups from both sides

dribble without looking at the ball for 20min each hand

    GOOD LUCK
