How to get rid of Odorous Ants?

My house is infested with, what I've recently found out, Odorous Ants. I guess it's common for them to infest houses. Anyway, I've read baiting is easy and really good way to get rid of them, I have been using Terror Borax bait traps. They are suppose to take some of the stuff inside the trap to there colony and kill the colony, but i have been using these for a long time now and they are still here.. in large numbers. They eat off of it and just seem to die in the traps or get stuck in the stuff. Some take it back but not very many.

Sorry for rambling. Is there anything else i can try? Hiring a exterminator is to expensive for me right now.

  1. Professionally for Odorous House Ants I use baits made by the same company that makes Combat, more of a protein bait rather than sugar based.  OHAs will nest near moisture, not in the ground like other ants but will move around.  One day under leaf matter, a couple of days later into the debris of the gutter..then back to under a potted plant. They usually are easy to locate the nest if you can find them trailing and once found treat the colony with an insecticide.  Over the years on chronic OHA problems, water leaks have been found and once that was taken care of the ant problem was easily resolved.

  2. Try liquid Sevin, usually find them around the foundation. That's probalby where the main nest is. Find it and treat the soil heavily and the foundation walls in the same area.

  3. I've found that a NON repellent spray such as termidor or phantom works well.If you have used a repellent spray around the house they will just go around it an stay in the house. Baits for this type of ant seem to take a very long time to work since these colonies can be bigger than regular ants. Also if you have a crawlspace with plastic down and moisture they will live under the plastic.Termidor and Phantom can be found online. They are expensive but workwell. Just follow directions and this will work. Buying the chemicals online and doing the job yourself is alot cheaper than hiring an exterminator.
