Question:

How to get rid of Stomach cramps when running?

At school, we have to run for like 1Km and every times, during the running, I feel stomach cramps, mostly one side or the other. Then, after I'm finish running, I still have the pain for 20 minutes..And it's not like I'm pushing myself too hard, I mean, my score is 4:45. Is there a way to get rid of this? I'm trying to do some exercise every week now, but what else could I do?

I heard drinking a lot of Powerade and Gatorade is good for our health and it helps, is it true?

Thanks

  1. Stomache cramps are caused by the build up of lactic acid in your muscles. (meaning your muscles aren't getting enough oxygen.) The only way to really get rid of it is to take deep breaths, and drink water when you're done. But if you think this is more than a simple running cramp then maybe you should talk to a trainer or a doctor.

And yes, it has been proven that powerade and gatorade rehydrate you better than water. they replace the electrolytes that your body sweats out. But all things in moderation.

  2. powerade and gatorade are good for temporary support but not for cramping, try holding your arms above your head, also eating bready foods that absorb acids help too

  3. Yes, drinking water does help. But I've also heard that eating a few packets of mustard before running also does the trick.

  4. if you push on your cramp and let out all the air in your lungs it should go away

  5. rub your stomach clockwise in a circle

  6. Drink more water,

  7. i get a cramp to every time i run if you just run through it for about 10 min tops mine go away

  8. I get those! Belive it or not drink lots of water and it'll make the cramps go away.

  9. those cramps are from lack of water and salts - gatorade will do it, but so will a banana and a tall glass of water 30 minutes bfore running.  If you still keep cramping, try deeper breaths as you run and lifting your hands on your head.  resist the urge to bend over when you've stopped running.

  10. Maybe you're just not used to it. No pain no gain. It'll go away one day, i'm sure its not serious.

  11. You are getting cramps because as you run your heart beats faster, and the faster it beats the more oxygen it uses up in your body, so your body redirects the flow of oxygenated  blood to the vital organs. But doing so causes your muscles to cramp up because the flow of oxygenated blood to your muscles is decreased.

It is most likely your abdominal muscles that are cramping up and not your stomach itself.

    Some tips:

Keep hydrated. Drink lots of water during the day and especially before and during rigorous exercises.

Take long, deep breaths before running for at least 10 or so minutes. Doing so will increase the rate of oxygen in your blood. You might feel a little dizzy for a few seconds from doing this, it's normal. This means that more oxygen is getting to your brain, but the feeling should pass quickly.

While running control your breathing. Learning to do this can actually improve your stamina. Being able to take long breaths will keep your oxygen level stable, and will help keep your heart rate steady.

Controlling your  breathing will also help keep your lungs from hyperventilating, which should also decrease the discomfort you feel in your abdominal area. As you run, your lungs expand  and contract faster, which puts strain on your muscles.

Eat healthy to keep your energy up, that's plenty of fruits and vegetables.

And one last tip before I go.

Do a few stretches before running/exercising

Hope this helps. :) Good luck!

  12. The day before make sure you drink plenty of water. Since you are a runner you should drink plenty of water everyday. Yes powerade and gatorade both is good but not as good as water. the ades has lots of electrolytes which is good in balancing the electrolytes through sweat such as sodium, chloride, potassium and for the potassium eat a banana too it will help your muscles. Gatorade will help replenish these things your body need when running.

  13. water, and inhalers help

  14. water and trying to forget it helps.

  15. if you warm-up and stretch for like 15 mins. before running, then cramps shouldn't happen.

  16. Stretch. That is important. Make sure to do it slow, have someone help you if needed. When you start, do not Sprint. Start with a slow jog, and gradually speed up to a comfortable speed.

Also, listen to the way you breath. Try not to hold you breath, and keep a constant inhale/exhale.

  17. Try to focus on your breathing.

Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth, try not to breath too fast.

That helped me a lot against these cramps.

  18. dont run after eating

  19. eat more bananas. But i don't suggest the sports drinks. One time i drank a lot of Gatorade while running to rehydrate, and i also was having a cramp. I drank too much, and i almost threw up. It made me feel sick. So only drink powerade or gatorade before physical activity, and only drink a little at a time when u aren't out of breath while u are running.

  20. Drink more water daily! Stretch as well...

  21. I promise you, it will go away soon as your body gets used to running.

  22. well you are supposed to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. i used to get cramps when i ran but after i learned how to breathe correctly, they were gone.

  23. Run to the nearest bush and cut that stink-pickle loose.  Don't forget the TP.  PEace.

  24. I slow my pace, put my arms over my head and sip a bit of water.

  25. You need to be hydrated before you run.  On days you know your running you need to make sure you drink enough fluids so that your urine is clear, that means you are fully hydrated and have much less chance of getting cramps.  Sports drinks can def help.  I've never had them for 20 minutes after though, they always seem to subside right after I stop running if I get them.  You might want to consult a physician just to be sure it's not something else.
