  1. Just clip the branches into small lengths (5in or 80mm) or as small as you can with your sheers and bury them in your garden. They will soon rot away. Alternatively you can put them in the garbage bin.

  2. find yourself a hand saw and cut off everything at the base --right at ground level. Later on you can dig out the roots.

  3. Besides cutting back as much as you can with the pruners, leaving a few larger size branches as good hand holds, I would suggest then watering the bush for a good 15 to 30 minutes at the very base of the plant to get the soil nice and loose. Then, grabbing ahold of two of the major branches, start wiggling the bush back and forth to loosen it from the soil. If you don't have a shovel or trowel, you'll need to use your hands to loosen the soil at the base and around the root ball. It should come out pretty easy then, depending on the size of the bush, the root ball and your determination.

    Good luck!

Any of these varieties look familiar?  It sounds like it could be a barberry bush.  What I would do is put on the gloves, use the clippers, and snip off all of the branches, then start at the top of the main stem and work your way down with the clippers until you have clipped it as low to the ground as possible,  then leave the rest until you can get your hands on a shovel to dig our the roots and remaining stump.  You may also want to consider asking a neighbor for a shovel to borrow so this can be done right away.  Good luck!

  5. You could use the pruning sheers and clip off as much as possible.  Get as much of the branches cut as you can.  This sounds like a holly bush. Wear long sleeves and gloves when doing this.  After bush is trimmed and disposed of, go back and start digging the roots out by starting about 1 foot from the trunk.  Dig a circle around it as deep as you can then start yanking.

Have fun, this is a great way to remove frustrations.  Great therapy with fresh air.
