How to get rid of a sleeping brown bat that is in your house before night fall

I have a little brown bat in my up stairs apartment - it is currently asleep in my kitchen hanging on the kitchen door to the back porch, can I open the door without waking it!!?

This is an animal control issue. Do not handle the bat.  Get in touch with the animal control department in your town and they will either come out, tell you who to talk to, or give you advice.

it's best to leave him be until night fall, then open a door and/or window and he will fly out himself. If you wake him during the day, he will be confused and frightened. Even though brown bats are not usually aggressive, you never now what a frightened animal might do. Your so lucky!! I wish I had a brown bat in my kitchen!!

Call pest control!  I wouldn't mess with bats.  ICK!

You'll most definitely wake it up.

You don't want to injure the bat, as they're really good for the ecosystem (they eat insects). Try opening the door and seeing if it flies out. Perhaps hold a broom and swipe at it when you open the door, be careful though to not actually come into contact with it.
