I heard of three different things you can do for ants.

1. spread bay leaf around the area you see them

2. put cucumber peelings around the area you see the

and 3. spray vinegar around the house yearly

I read in a magazine the other day that talcum powder would get rid of them.  I had ants coming from a window, walking along the wall until they came to our trash can.  Ant traps weren't working so I thought I would give it a try.  My walls are white so I cleaned all the ants off, put talc in my hand and brushed it up and down the wall from the trash can to the window and then put a little in the corner of the window and to this day I have not seen an ant in that area again.  So for whatever reason it worked for me.

First you need to figure out what they are after & clean that up. If they are after sugar, seal your sugary stuff in plastic containers so they can't get at it.

Second, how are they getting in. Seal up cracks, caulk around windows.

I had a big problem about a month ago. I used ant block granuels across the front door & outside windows. I have a brick house that has what they call weeping holes at the base to get rid of moisture. I put bay leafs in each weeping hole. No more ants. Have not seen one since we did the leaves.

There are a lot of suggestions, some didn't work for me. The borax didn't work, neither did the ant traps.  If you need to get rid of the ones you can see, a 50/50 mix of alcohol & water in a spray bottle kills them almost instantly.  It won't keep them from coming back, but the ones you do see are taken care of.
