  1. smash them...pour alcohol on them

  2. Go outside and find out where they are coming from. Put baby powder on their mound and clean your kitchen with soapy water where you have seen them - everyday just to be sure until they disappear. They leave a pheromone trail that the others follow, when they find food they leave a different pheromone (scent) that tells the others there is food then here they come! If you have sugar or grease particles anywhere they will find them - their favorites!

Once everything is clean get out the caulking and seal ANY cracks. This should slow them down. Don't use chemical pesticides they are harmful to you and the environment - all you really need to do is outsmart them. Start outside.

  3. Step1

Sprinkle Diatomaceous Earth in areas you feel ants are gathering or traveling through. Diatomaceas Earth, also known simply as DE is a fossilized remains of a hard shelled algae. When an insect comes into contact with it, it works as shards of glass breaking open the body of the insect and causing it to dehydrate and die. Use food grade DE.

    Step2

Sprinkle common black pepper in areas ants are entering/exiting to prevent them from crossing.

    Step3

Sprinkle talcum (baby) powder around areas that are infected with ants or where you feel ants may be drawn such as sugar bowls, pet foods and pantry shelves. Even after you wipe it away, the talcum powder will still have some effect so no need to lay it on thick at all. Best of all, it sure smells better than insect sprays!

    Step4

Place bay leaves in key areas around your pantry, storage areas and any other place in your home ants are/could be a problem.

    Step5

Homemade Ant Spray: Mix equal parts Windex glass cleaner and Ivory soap. Simply spray onto problem areas.

    Step6

Anti Ant Recipe: Mix 1/2 cup of white sugar with 1 cup of warm water. Add 2 tablespoons of borax household cleaner to this mixture. The sugar is the bait, the borax is the killer. Soak the mixture up with cotton balls or makeup sponges and place in ant infested areas. You could even place it in shallow dishes to entice the ants to have a few slurps.

    Step7

Feed them! Cream of wheat that is. They eat it and it expands greatly, killing them.

    Step8

Plant mint plants around your exterior windows and doors and basement entrances. You can also scatter dried mint around common ant areas. Ants hate the smell of mint.

    Step9

Keep your home clean! Especially of crumbs, sugar and grease.

  4. Try using an ant killer. It is available in many stores. The poison is just like a chalk piece. Just draw lines with it  (keep away from food) wherever u see ants. Use it around drain  holes.

If it doesnt work call a pest controller

  5. You'll need to call pest control. If you get a commercial ant killer, it's not as strong as what they use, plus there really is a technique to killing them. If you kill some worker ants, it gets back to the queen ant and then they move, they don't die. One visit from pest control should do it. Also, you usually have to buy a large bag of ant killer and it has to be used within three months. Alot of people don't know that. So call a pest control company, have them do a one time ant control treatment and be done with it. There's no guarantee, but it'll work. They will also give you a free inspection of your house. I would strongly advise it. They are trained professionals in dealing with bugs and they can see problems you can't or don't understand.

I worked for a company for 3 months and learned alot. Not being a homeowner at the time I didn't understand how important the lawn was and the problems that could escalate if not treated.

I am now married to a man who after his wife left a few years ago, couldn't take proper care of the grass and everything else. His lawn his dreadful. I call it the "white trash" lawn. We've been working on it and have found carpenter ants everywhere. He doesn't have a termite bond and in especially southern states that is a homeowners suicide. I had to hear the horror stories of young people who had homes that didn't have a bond, then when they tried to sell the house, they found out they had termites. Termites to a house is like cancer to a human. It's not covered by insurance. Once it's in the inspectors report that you've had termites it's a "permanent stain" on the house. It costs thousands of dollars to go in and fix, you won't be able to sell the house until it's done, and it will never be covered by a bond (the contaminated part). That can loose many buyers. The bond will cover the uncontaimented part of the house that has been treated, but it's a risk I wouldn't want to take on when buying a house.

No one wants to spend money on bugs and termites, but it is a wise investment. The maintance is much cheaper than having to go in and redo the damage. When selling your house, it will be important as far as "curb appeal." Most contracts will carry over in a sale, which can be a plus for a buyer. They will just have to take over the monthly payments.

One word of advice, when they come out, tell them you want a phone call before they do, and make sure you walk with them the entire time. Don't just let them have free reign. Some places will say that they went out, but they really didn't.

    Get referrals.

    Best wishes.
