Question:

How to get rid of bleeding colors?

I have a black and white striped shrug that I put in the wash for the first time. Unfortunately, it was also put in the wash with a new red and white skirt. The bottom white half of the skirt got stained pink from the top red half of the skirt and so did the white stripes on the shrug. I managed to get rid of the pink stain on the skirt by bleaching the bottom half of the red/white skirt but I don't know what to do about the shrug. I can't just bleach part of the shrug like I could the skirt. If I bleach the shrug, won't the black get messed up? How can I get the pink out of the white stripes on the shrug without harming the black stripes?

  1. in the laundry section, they sell these color catching sheets that you throw in the washer with the clothes.  i've used them a few times and they worked for me.  when you pull the sheet out at the end it's always a different color because it "caught" all of the color.  i don't know how they work, but they did for me.

  2. Try a color safe bleach like clorox 2. I am  personally a fan of oxy-clean. That actually removed crayon from my son's red and white jersey (the crayon was washed and dried accidentally).

  3. Put it back in the washer and add shout and your washing power, put on long wash half load cold water.  Let the machine run then let it sit a couple hours longer if you have time .  It's loose dye it should move out if you have not dried it in the dryer. If you don't have time to do this now just let it air dry and work on  this later.  Over nite is fine to soak .
