Question:

How to get rid of blink reflex? I'd like lenses, but I always shut my eyes involuntarily when they are touched

My optometrist told me that it would be very difficult for me to get used to lenses. She could not even measure the curvature of my eyes because of my blink reflex. Has anyone had the same experience? Can you recommend me some exercise to get rid of this reflex?

  1. I have the blink reflex too! Except it only happens when something is really close to my eye. I just got contact lenses today (trial pair). I had great difficulty taking them off. (Putting them on was hard to, I had to ask the person who was helping me to do that and to take it off but in the end i put it on and took it off by myself. It took about an hour lol.) Hold your bottom and top part of the eye firmly like really really hard. If you are getting soft lenses it's even harder (i got it), taking them off is horrible. You have to grab it out of your eye lol, yeah it sounds scary, (it kinda was), but you get used to it. You should get a trial pair. But to get a trial pair atleast one time you should take it off and put it on yourself! I know for sure you're gonna get scared so you have to try really hard to be calm and try to do it fast. :)

  2. Wash your hands really well. Hold your lower lid down with your middle finger and  look up. Touch your sclera (the white part) with your index finger a couple of times. Do this a few times a day until your brain figures out it is ok to do this. Your reflex should calm down if you do this a few times a day for a week or so. It has worked for some of our patients.
