Question:

How to get rid of cats hanging out in our yard

We've tried everything next to poisoning them. We'd rather not hurt them or kill them, but we want them OUT of our yard. Several from the neighborhood come over, mate on our deck (that's pleasant) & kill wild baby rabbits that we'd much rather have then the cats. We've thrown water on them, shot them with pellet guns (just enough to sting them not hurt them), tried scaring them, everything. They just keep coming back. Is there anything else we can do. (We called animal control too, but they don't do much of anything about cats.) HELP!

  1. get a dog

  2. First of all, DO NOT KILL OR HURT THEM!  That is wrong.

continue to call animal control. it is there job to take care of the problem.  Someone must be feeding them or else why would they be there?  Maybe they belong to your neighbor. Send your neighbors a letter asking them if the cats belong to them.

  3. then the mouse attracts cats

  4. I'm beginning to wonder if America is in fact in Africa. Seeing we (in Britain) can go to a DIY store and buy a spray which deters cats. Doesn't that exist in "superpower" USA?

    Makes you wonder...

  5. You could try a fence, but it would have to be pretty tall to keep cats out. You can buy bottled coyote urine at garden stores- it's used to scare deer away from gardens, but it might work for cats too. Just put some around the edge of your yard. I can't guarantee that it will work, but combined with your other methods the cats should figure out that your yard is a bad place to be. You could also ask your neighbors to keep their cats indoors, but don't expect any real result from that.

  6. just shoot one and put it on a stick in your yard. then all the other cats will see it and get scared off

  7. I heard orange peels annoys them spread some around .

  8. call animal control

  9. Just get some live traps and start taking them to the local shelter. Or better yet, take them to a shelter in the next town. Advertise around the neighbourhood what your intentions are. My guess is that your problem will go away quickly.

  10. Use the dogs to get rid of the cats, the lions to get rid of the dogs, the bears to get rid of the lions, and the elephants to get rid of the bears, and then one small little mouse to get rid of the elephants...

Thank you very much...hope this helped...

  11. I had the same problem and the local animal control was no help.  My neighbors and I decided to get live traps and catch them.  They were defecating in my yard and sleeping in my garden.

I found a farm on the outs of town and they said it would be ok if I dropped off cats. We have moved over more than two dozen cats from our neighborhood within 3 weeks.

We also have a kill shelter, so I figured the non declawed verile cats would do better in the wild then be put to death because they mate on our neighbors' roof in plain sight.

  12. A Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time.

    Just don't shoot at icicles.
