Question:

How to get rid of fear of boxes/ramps/rails for snowboarding?

I've been snowboarding for 4 years now and I still have a major fear of rails/ramps/boxes of all kinds.

I'm better than pretty much all of my friends at snowboarding, I don't fall going down slopes anymore.

How do I get over my fear of terrain parks though? I see little 5 year olds doing those rails and ramps and yet Im afraid of breaking my neck on them.

Are there any techniques I need to know? Any videos I can watch for terrain park beginners?

Thanks!

  1. Look, I used to have the same fear. I was boarding down diamonds double blacks. But at the terrain park it was very scary to see the rails and jumps. But, now i am good. Start off with a box. one that is about 3 inches above the snow. Its easy. and on the box if you are going side ways or diagnol do not every try to switch your position so you can go strait. Then work your way up all the way to the huge butter box and cannon box. Next go up to Rails. start with a flat rail. They are easy start with one that is couple of inches high and 1-3 feet long. Then work you way up to the rainbow rail and etc. ( on the rail i did a  flat rail and i did not go fast enough i fell on my tail bond right on the rail ouch. One little tip fall sideways and go faster on the rails. Last try little jumps that you will get half or one foot high. Work your way up. Lastly just a reminder dont do anything you are not ready for. I did a huge box about 23 foot long and 5 feet high. I messed up. i had to do a big jump to get on i missed the box and hit the tip of my board to the side of the box. Then i hit my head very hard and ofcourse hurt my back bone again lol. Please give me best answer. HOPE I HELPED

  2. DVDS- jumping with jussi

    jibbing with jeremy

nice videos for jumps and rails

just start small and work your way up.

no shame in riding over the jump your first couple of times

  3. ya i know how u feel thats how i was last year but all i did was just grow some cahoones and went for it and now im actually a decend shredder i can 540 and frontside rails

  4. Take some lessons. Also if you get some protective gear you will have more confidence because you'll feel that you are less likely to get injured. They make body armor for just about all body parts. Between lessons and some padding you will get it no problem. I think that often when you get good at snowboarding we tend to forget about lessons, but they can really help out. Or try a snowboard camp like Windels (on Mt. Hood), or similar, they are geared towards helping you to go to the next level in your snowboarding.

  5. This probably isn't going to be a popular answer, but smoke a doob. That always killed my fear!!

  6.
