How to get rid of field mice?

Hi, I live in a house and we have a large backyard. We have two very large woodpiles in one corner of the yard against the fence and since last year, there have been field mice who live in it. I even saw one climb the fence from another yard and jump into the pile!

Anyway, I don't want to use poison because I have a dog who stays outside 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He never comes inside. What are other alternatives besides the exterminator?

  1. get rid of the woodpiles... you provided a perfect home and then wonder why they're living there?.... or just leave them alone.... are they bothering you in the house or in your shed or what?.... remember..."Everybody's gotta live somewhere!!"....

  2. get a cat

  3. They are outside, what difference does it make?  You could trap mice outside until the day you die and you wouldn't put a dent in their population.  Leave them be, or get rid of the wood piles....or get some cats.

  4. Ask around for  a barn cat.  Barn cats make excellent mousers.  If they are not in your house, you should leave them alone for now.  Come winter they will be trying to come in, tho.

  5. I would just get alot of mouse traps and put some cheese or peaunt butter on the mouse traps.
