  1. Lag spikes are in regards of your router, not your operating system. The only time your Operating System will create lag spikes is if you are playing in high settings when your computer hardware cannot handle it.

To get rid of lag spikes.. download all the newest drivers for your router and hardware in your computer. You're lucky since you have an HP... just go in the HP website and click on Driver Downloads (or something like that) and it will scan your computer. That's an upside of HP.

you're playing in wireless, therefore you're bound to have lag spikes. wireless is slower than direct ethernet connection. Something you can do to get rid of the wireless searching would be to disable it in your router options... That's what I did.

I made it so it only scans when I make it scan. I also made it so it automatically connects to your router when you're in range of it... So you don't have to manually connect to it... Which is a very useful feature.

something else you could do is run antivirus, antispyware, and antiadware scans... Those slow your computer a LOT when you have a huge load of them in your computer. Also, try deleting your Cookies in your Internet Browser's options.

So yeah. To lower down the lag spikes... Do what I just mentioned and it should go well. I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium and I play Counter-Strike Source a lot and I sometimes have lag spikes... Now I don't anymore.
