Are you talking about those gekkos that seem to crawl around tropical climates? If all of the seals are intact and your windows are shut properly around your house, you should be able to prevent them from entering into your residence. In terms of having them outside, they do consume insects quite aggressively, so having them outside (but not inside) is actually a very helpful thing.
