I just moved in to a new house up on the hill and after few months found green moss on my bedroom ceiling. I covered them with anti-moss paint. But now all my wooden furnitures have white moss. Please help.

  1. Moss? Moss grows on trees and rocks- things it's small roots can absorbe minerals from.   No, I think you have MOLD.  This is actually A HUGE PROBLEM.  Mold can make you very sick, destroy the structural integrety of the building and kill the resale value.

Did you PURCHASE this house?  This is ABSOLUTELY something you MUST inspect for BEFORE you buy the home, as mold will usually KILL the sale.  If a house I was looking at was found to have mold, I'd walk away.  It is VERY difficult and very costly to have removed.  Since mold grows with spores, the more you mess with it to remove it, the more the spores spread through ventilation systems, etc.  Additionally, if you have mold, you have wetness- BAD.

You need to get a professional into the building ASAP, if you own it, and grab your contracts that you signed at closing.  At this point, there is probably next to nothing that can be done as far as the previous owners go, but since they slipped the wool over your eyes because you didn't do your due dillegence, the LEAST they can do is tell you if they combated the mold previously, and what type it is.  You may need to leave the building for your saftey.  Speak with your realtor about what POTENTIAL recourse you may have with the sellers.  Again, it's going to be next to nothing, but the realtor may be helpful in negotiating between your two parties about WHAT it is and HOW LONG it's existed.

If you are RENTING the home, contact your landlord immediately, and if the mold is found to be dangerous, he may have to place you into another unit or hotel while the work is being done- this info is on your lease.

Today is Sunday, I realize, but you need to act IMMEDIATELY.  If it's mold, as I have said, there is a lot at stake.

Next time you purchase a home- have ALL the inspections done- it's your due dillegence.  If you just bought it a few months ago, you can't sell now because the taxes will KILL you, and you may have to encour all the repair costs yourself.  Buying a home is a BIG DEAL, and you NEED to do ALL your homework.  You can't just trust that everyone is honest, and you have to remember that the realtor wants to sell the house to make his comission.  You're in a bad place if you haven't educated yourself about the home buying process COMPLETELY.

I just read the stuff you added to the question, this is NOT a problem that you can fix YOURSELF.  YOU MUST HIRE PROFESSIONALS to get rid of mold.  You probably WILL have to leave the house and you must know that you can't paint over it, they will be removing sheetrock, etc to see if the mold goes to the studs.  Mold is like an infestation, in that, once you see it, there's a TON more of it behind the scenes that you CAN'T see.  Call a professional IMMEDIATELY.  If you let it get worse, you will really regret it, and my even become very sick.

  2. Get a professional in if it's your own house.

That's not moss, it' mould and can cause health problems.

    If you rent, leave

  3. if your renting Move and if just bought that house you have some major problems. l am surprise you are not Sick.

  4. Moss is indicating dampness in the house-please have a contractor check this out.

  5. Before you do anything else get a dehumidifier.  Whether its moss,  mold or something else it needs moisture to grow.  After everything dries out clean it with a bleach and TSP solution.  If that doesn't solve the problem call someone who specializes in mold problems.
