2 days ago, i tried the virgin olive oil treatment on my hamster for mites, i was told to rub one or two TABLESPOON of oil on her (i rubbed one tablespoon). she came out all soaky wet, even worse, oilly and smells like greasy olive (yuck :|). a lot of oil was licked off, but her fur is still oily and sticky, it's kindda yellowish too (my hamster is a pearl white russian). so i was wondering how do i get rid of the sticky/oily fur to make it white again? and will one tablespoon of oil affect my poor hammie??

my mom wouldnt bring her to a vet cuz i snuck her in the house to start with :P, and im totally broked. helpful advise plz.

  1. Im not to sure about the dish thing..........that happened before and I used chinchilla SAND NOT DUST!

    Good luck!

  2. You can use a drop of Dawn dish soap (very very very little), to get the oil off your hammie.

Also, the olive oil won't hurt her, even if she's ingested it. It should make her coat and skin very nice. If she swallowed too much of it, she could have loose stools while the oil works out of her system, but she should be okay.

Additionally, I would recommend starting an emergency vet fund. It's always when you can't afford vet care that something awful happens, so please, start putting a little bit away toward necessary medical costs.

  3. yes, wash her with dish soap and dry her off quickly after with a towel or hair dryer (not too hot!!)

  4. idk for sure if this will help your problem but i know u can wash hamsters check this out

  5. i think that dawn(yes dish soap) can be used on any animal they use it to get rid of fleas on baby kittens in our local shelter and should get rid of the oil
