Question:

How to get rid of the effects of a chalazion?

About a year ago I had really bad chalazions. I had four on my left eye, and 2 on my right. My left eye got so bad that for a while I couldn't even keep it open on its own. That was bad enough as it was, especially being in high school, but over the past year they finally disappeared on their own and my eyes are back to normal.

Almost.

On my left eye I still have the effects of a chalazion present. It's not an actual chalazion, as it doesn't have the same form, shape, or composition. Rather, it's the "scar" of the chalazion that used to be there.

Here's a photo so you can understand what I'm saying (it's my left eye--the right eye when looking at the photo).

I do my best to cover it up by wearing eyeliner on the bottom eyelids so my eyes look to be about the same size. I know it's hardly noticeable when I do that, but it still bugs me. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? It would mean a lot to me.

  1. There are two things you can do.

First you can do the self care recommended by physicians which is.

        * Warm compresses may be helpful. Hold a warm, wet towel on the eyelid for 10-15 minutes, 2-4 times a day, to reduce swelling.

        * Lightly massage the area several times a day.

        * Do not "pop" or scratch the chalazion.

The second is to see your doctor. Sometimes these have to be treated with antibiotics if they become infected and sometimes minor surgery is required because the clogged oil pore becomes to hard and can not drain properly.
