  1. if she just has fear of corn snakes, you may just want to get something else like a milk snake. All kidding aside, the best way is exposure and education. Show her how harmless they are and even if they did bite, it would be less damage than any dog or cats nails could ever do. As she spends more time around the snake, she may slowly get used to it. Although, it is possible she may just be complacent w/ it but still have a fear or dislike

  2. Most of the time, if she doesn't have to handle it, spouses (or moms) do fine.  As a matter of fact, I've had a lot of people on the forums whose moms ended up liking their snakes so much they ended up getting one of their own.  As another poster suggested: Education and gradual introduction can do the trick.  Don't force the snake on her, just keep it in his room and let her learn about them slowly.  Once she learns that most of the things she either heard or conjured up are false, she may warm up.  Make sure he's diligent about securing the lid. A loose snake in the house certainly won't help anything.

  3. a little over 2 years ago i was terrified of snakes...even the thought of a snake freaked me out (me being 40 at the time).  my husband said it was time to get over my fear...he took me to the pet shop that sells exotics and we bought a ball python.  i looked at it for days and finally handled it.  now i have a passion for snakes.  i went from being terrified to owning 24 (including 1 burmese and 10 of them being a successful breeding of our 2 blood pythons).  unfortunately when we moved we had to give away 19 of our snakes.  now i think of all the time i wasted of my life being afraid of them...if i had gotten over my fear earlier in life i probably would have done some kind of work with herps...herp vet or something like that.  there really isnt a better snake to start a beginner with than a corn snake or a kingsnake...i think corns though are a little sweeter as babies than kings.  so if she is willing the best way to get her over her fear is to take her to the reptile shop (if you can find a locally owned reptile shop it is better than pets mart or petco) most of the time the employees are more than willing to work with you they will bring out snakes and let her look at them and stuff like that.  then if she is willing to have one in the house buy one...eventually she will be ok around it.  just a word or warning to you though she might become addicted to snakes.  now in our house my husband never knows when he will come home and find a new snake that i bought.  they are great pets.
