How to get rid of the feeling like you're trapped

So i've gone on vacation this summer, we went and stayed at this big house but I stayed in the little cottage. When I was in there I had a feeling come over me (which i've had before) and it's a feeling of being stuck in a place and not being able to get out. Sorta a feeling of dread, being stuck.. even though I could have gotten out and walked around if I wanted to. I've had it when i'm at home in my room too and even if people are there. It's one of the worst feelings I have, worse than just being upset. I don't think it's claustrophobia since you have way worse symptoms but I don't know what it is.

I just want it to go away, does anybody know how to just get over it?

  1. anxiety attack for sure

  2. Sounds like an anxiety attack.....How old are you?

  3. It sounds a lot like a panic attack. I get them too. One tip I was given is slow deep breathing. If they get worse or really unbearable you might want to see a psychiatrist (you can get a referral through your normal doctor) there are medications that can help.

  4. I agree, sounds like an anxiety attack to me. I have a feeling of impending doom when I get them, I feel like I can't breathe (and actually notice that my breathing is shallow) and I feel sort of squashed or squeezed. I don't take meds for it, I use meditation, yoga, and deep breathing techniques until the episode subsides. Deep breaths actually really help me. I sit down in a comfortable spot, close my eyes and let my body go limp, then I take slow deep breaths. Yoga and other forms of exercise have actually helped in decreasing the frequency of anxiety attacks for me.
