Question:

How to get rid of the male cat smell in the flat?

I moved in a flat where the previous owner kept a male cat (or a few). The flat is clean now but the odor keeps choking me. Especially in the corridor. Should I spray the walls, floor or other places (where tomcats usually spray their smell) with some special product? How is it called?

  1. you could try to put down a new carpet or put down the wooden flooring because this will get rid of the smell. Or if you plan on getting yourself a cat you should use the wood tiles.

But if you don't want a new carpet, you should try using viniger, baking powder/soda, or you could use fresh lemon juice. Any of these get the smell right out.

Good luck with it any how

  2. A) you could repaint. and b) baking soda absors oder

  3. If you are renting, you need to bring this to the attention of the landlord and insist they treat the flat.  If you own the flat, call a local vet.  They can tell you what products to use to remove the smell.  It depends on what type of flooring you have as to what products to use to clean it.

  4. mix 2parts vinegar with 3 parts water, and rub down the affected area. this should clear it up! Good luck!

  5. If you can get the carpets out, put them in the sun as heat helps dissipate the smell. Other than that, try washing the floors and walls with scented disinfectants

  6. You need to buy a special cleaning product with an enzyme in it that eliminates cat odour.  You can find it in any pet supply store.   Make sure you clean all the baseboards & joins between the baseboards and flooring.    If there is carpet then you need to clean it (actually soak it)  with that cleaner as well.    As I'm guessing you are from Britain I don't know what the brand names would be "across the pond".

  7. Cat urine contains fatty deposits, which unfortunately most cleaning products leave behind.  It's the smell of these decaying fats which smells so rancid.

You need to use enzymatic products to break down these fats.  Alternatively you can mix 10% biological (enzymatic) washing powder with warm water for cleaning then rinse thoroughly with cold water and allow to dry.  When it's dry, using a plant mister, spray the area with surgical spirit (cheap from the chemist) and work it into the surface with a nail or scrubbing brush and allow to dry naturally.  This will remove any of the fats that the cleaning solution might have missed.

The web site below has a great article on the most effective methods of removing cat urine from all types of flooring and surfaces, which may be helpful to you.

  8. Oh jeeze, if you weren't in the UK, I'd recommend all sorts of cleaners to you.  Umm.... take a box of bicarbonate of soda and sprinkle it all over your carpet, especially where the smells are coming from, wait about 15 minutes and then vacuum it up.  If you want to, you could try to find Simple Green, Febreeze or maybe some form of Oxy Clean.  Or you can go to your local pet store and ask them what they recommend.

    Best of luck. =)

  9. A fresh coat of paint on walls and urine-gone for the floor or carpet!

(Maybe use a black light to see how bad and where it is!)
