  1. If you load 98 now, you can get none of the updates it needed as it is no longer supported. I would go for XP, which MS finally got right just as they dumped it for new machines.

  2. If this is a new computer, in all probability, all of the components would be incompatible with 98. Why not downgrade to XP? It's better than both.

  3. Would'nt advise trying such a retrograde move...

Unless you know what youre doing you wll never rid the Hard Drive of embedded Vista OS.

Get your Vista checked out or try a clean re-install. May solve it for you.

If your determined to go back -opt for XP instead of W98.

    Good Luck.

  4. i wouldnt downgrade to '98...try 'XP pro' or u could go for a distro of linux (eg. Ubuntu, Fedora, d**n Small Linux, Puppy Linux, etc.)

  5. No point. 98 is old technology. It wouldn't be able to run the new hardware. Your best bet is to get a copy of XP.

  6. Just a quick note in case you've got a package machine still under warranty. Some manufacturers and retailers consider the warranty invalid if you install anything other than XP on a pre-packaged Vista machine.

Even if you do put 98 on this computer it might be quite difficult finding hardware drivers to go with it by now (as said earlier Microsoft isn't supporting it) even through manufacturers.

    What the system build anyway?
