  1. Right now, Switzerland is not covered by the Schengen Agreement. You would have to apply for a Swiss visa separately at the Swiss embassy of your country, if required.

The Switzerland government has signed the Schengen Agreement and after a plebiscite decision, Switzerland is in process to implement the required systems based on the agreement.

It is planned to implement the termination of passport controls at the boarders to Austria, Germany, France and Italy, and the issue of Schengen visa by Switzerland consulates as of 5th or 6th December 2008, depending on approval by the European Council.

The implementation at the Swiss Airports is planned for the 29th of March 2009.

Since Switzerland is neither a member of the European Union nor of the European Union Customs Union, the Swiss boarders will remain manned by customs’ officers. Border crossers are still subject to be checked for being within the limits of tax and duty-free allowances for travelers.

  2. It is not yet a part of the Schengen Countries.  Unless you travel via rail which cross through any of the Schengen countries you would not need a visa.

    Have a nice trip

  3. Switzerland will implement it's status as a Schengen country in early December this year.  From then, Switzerland will be one of the countries covered by the Schengen Visa.
