How to get started on a career in media

I would like to pursue a career in media. I already have a bachelor's degree in history. Do I need to go back to school? I was considering moving to New York City. Should I go to a school there? I don't really know how to begin all of this. Should I move, get a job, and then try to return to school? I really don't want to get another bachelor's degree. Would I have to do that or could I just go back to take some classes?

  1. how did you figure out how to get a bachelor? never mind its in history.

  2. phone them repeatedly on the hour begging for a chance

  3. No you do not need to go back to school, you have a degree. You might want to try with a small local paper, probably as a photo-journalist. The big papers will want experience. Try writing articles for magazines, there are thousands of magazines out there and they all need content to keep publishing. You have a degree in history, do a web search for history magazines and pick one, ask for their authors guidelines and submit articles to be published. Once you get a by-line you are on your way. Try getting a part time job also with any publishing outfit to try and get experience.
