How to get started racing? (cars)

I live in Indiana (and I'm a 21 year old girl) and I want to be a race car driver. I've been doing research but haven't had any luck. I'm wanting tips on getting started. Anything and everything you can tell me! Where do I look for a car? How and where do I enter races? I have no experience, should I go to a racing school? If so, which one? Thanks in advance for answering my question.

  1. All the answers here plus the answers that you got when you asked the same question two weeks ago...so here...look them over.

And...if yiou are 21....it's too late.

  2. It'd be best to start off gaining experience on a local track. Get in touch with race organizers at small tracks near you and find out what divisions they offer (cup lite, modified late model, etc. etc.)

Once you have that info you need to consider the amount of time and money you are able to invest and pick a category. Check out rules for qualifying, car modifications and such...

You might want to go to local businesses and find out if anyone is interested in sponsoring you. Some will pay good money for an advertisement on your car, which will ease the financial burden. Also be thinking of a good team of mechanics, spotters, truck drivers, and etc. that will get you to the track and through the race! Good luck, and stay safe!

  3. Is this not the same question we are asked every week????

You need to get your own car start in go karts...or LMS. No one will hire you to drive...you have to prove yourself FIRST! Look for a car in a junk yard, hire a crew and fix it up. Go to your local short track's web site and down load their local rules. Pay an entry fee and go racing. This will cost you thousands (car/hauler/crew/etc)!!! You could go to a racing school BUT most teams want you to work your way up from the bottom. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO HIRE YOU FRESH OUT OF A DRIVING SCHOOL!!! You have to start at the bottom and work your way up. If you want a school try research on the web for your closest one. If you HAD done any research YOU WOULD NOT need to ask this question.

  4. Do you have the $ to get started? Since you have no experience it will be very hard for you to get a sponsor. Try saving up for a junker to race in the lowest class just to get some tracktime, then when you start looking for sponsors you'll have something to put on your resume. When you start spending time at the track you'll figure out what you need to do.
