Hey i'm a college student who is studying computer science atm and after my studies i wish to live in Japan for a few years to learn the language and culture. One way i was thinking of doing this was enrolling in the army, marine, air force, etc and try to get stationed in Japan if possible. I would like to use what i'm studying and apply it if possible. I'm not afraid of the physical work that they throw at you so that's not a problem. Anyways what section would give me that choice of stationing in Japan? Is it even possible right away?

  1. It isnt hard at all if you join the Navy, Marine Corps ad maybe the Air Force. Lots of  bases from these branches there. The Army has a heavy presence in South Korea. There are few Army "bases" are units within Japan, as far as I know.

    Edit

Oh the USMC your dream sheet is East Coast ,West Coast or overseas. No specific country or location you can pick. I thought Japan was beautiful, but I didnt care too much for their culture though.

  2. I was in the Navy stationed in Yokosuka and that is the best place to be stationed in Japan. You can apply your skills to the Navy and be a Information Systems Technician aka IT. Unless you have someone who can pull strings for you, the likeliness of your first orders to Japan will be tough. You can't walk into the recruiting office and say I will only join if you get me orders to Japan, they might tell you they can do it but it will be a lie. Chances are you join the military, get stuck where you don't want, then when you are up for new orders (if you reenlist) you can put in for Japan. Get it? In the Navy while in boot camp you are give a "dream wish list" you can put in for the top 3 places you want to be stationed. I put in for the east coast, Italy and Spain and I got stuck in the pacific. I was given orders to Japan while I was in boot camp and I was soo mad I cried (I'm a girl). If you are a white or black man the local women will love you, if you are a white woman (like me) the local women will give you dirty looks and the men will stare. I'm tall so I stood out like a sore thumb. Good luck and I hope you make it to Japan someday!
