The spots are raised up and we thought that it was mold. Is it possible to have brown mold in an above ground pool.

  1. Well try to scrub it with a brush.

  2. use pool brush to clean unwanted spots :)

  3. Not mold. It may be calcium deposits or it may be a crust of dead algae. Your only real option is to get the pool brush out and use some elbow grease. Draining ISN'T an option unless you want to buy a new liner. If it's dead crusted algae, you may find that a VERY light sprinkling of granular shock on the area and then brushing after a minute, will do the trick. If it's calcium ( what I suspect it is), elbow grease and lots of it. You may never get it to leave though. Next time you get your water tested, see what the calcium hardness level is.
