My husband and I smoke inside the house, but I'm going to quit, and I know in order to quit I have to make my husband go outside to smoke. I'm having guests over tomorrow, so I figured this was a good time to start smoking outside. I want to really detail clean my house and make it smell fresh. How can I get the smoky smell out of the house? And please don't say use Febreeze, I hate that stuff, plus it doesn't work, I've done tried.

  1. try to open your windows for acouple of hours & when the guest come over but some candles out.

  2. You could call a carpet cleaner and furiture and that mostly gets the smell out of alot of things, i hate febreeze also...covering up the smell doesn't get rid of it!

You could also take some Baking Soda and mix it with Dawn soap that makes it extra bubbly so it cleans deep and also freshens!

    Good Luck

  3. Open all the windows and doors and turn all the fans on.

And stop smoking in the house for sure now. If you have any kids its bad for them.

  4. First, smoke only outside.

Then, buy lavender flowers for every room.

    Then, don't smoke anymore/anywhere.

  5. We don't regularly smoke in our house but we do on occasion when the kids aren't home.  Usually it's outside and we smoke less since we have to go out to do it.  To get the smell out I light Nag Champa incents in a few scattered rooms in the house with the windows closed.  I leave the house for a while.(i don't like the smell of them when they are burning)  When I come home an hour or so later, I open up the windows and turn on a fan.  After the incense burns it leaves a nice sweet, fresh smell to the house within a few hours.  No smoke smell for us afterward.  Good luck on quitting.

  6. Quit smoking. (and buy another house?)

  7. What worked to finally get the smell of my mom's cigarettes out when she quit was leaving one bowl of white vinegar and one bowl of lemon in the room with the windows closed for 24 hours. Sounds weird, but I guess the vinegar absorbs the smell and the lemon gives the air a fresh scent. Worked well for us. I'd also recommend getting the carpets cleaned if there are any.

  8. A quick fix:

Can you open the windows and doors and run a fan?  Or get one of those scents that attach to your AC filter and turn this on?  Also use a strong scent like Lysol to clean in the kitchen, and an orange or lemon scented furniture polish, and the same with window cleaner. This and some scented candles ought to make your house smell fresh and wonderful for your guests.

I believe to really get residual smoke smell out you're going to need to wash the walls and woodwork. I only smoke in one room of my house - a bathroom - and I've got a "tobacco-colored" stain on the walls, ceiling, tiles. Its disgusting.

Good luck with moving your smoking outside with fall/winter coming on!

    Good luck with your party.

  9. My best advice is to burn incense. But not the cheap kind. The real stuff you get at flea markets or at Indian shops (if you have on close by). Put at least 1 stick in a room and just let it burn. Open a door or window to have a bit of ventilation

  10. vinegar sprayed around with a spray bottle can help remove some of the smell. Also you really need to shampoo all the rugs and furniture, and wash everything down to really get the smell out.  The smoke particles attach to everything.

  11. rent an ozone machine, it's what they use to remove the smoke smell from a house thats had a fire or smoke damage.

  12. I'm quitting too. IT:S HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD after 10 years of smoking!!!! Agggggggggggggggggggggh

    ANYWAY,

(Call your local cig shops and ask them if they have this)

There are these candles that speciffically get rid of cig smoke - I know you can buy them at walmart and cig shops. They are called Lord Byron's Smokers Candle.

Quick View: No one in my house smokes and no one who visits does because I am very allergic to smoke. However, my husband works around smokers and, when he walks in the door, I can instantly smell that rancid smoke odor and, seconds later, I am sneezing and blowing my nose. This candle works like a charm to get rid of that smoky smell.

    About Lord Byron's Smokers Candle

This cream colored candle is about four inches tall and three inches around. It has natural citrus and wood oils to remove stale smoke smells, not cover them up. The candle burns for 60 hours.

I burn it often. My husband isn't always around the smokers but I know the second he walks in the door if he has been. My brother in law smokes too and when my sister drops something off at my house, that stale smoke makes me gag. Out comes the candle! This candle takes a few minutes to heat up and then a pleasant scent in emitted into the air. More than that, the smoke smell is gone completely. It even removes the scent from clothing. It works like no room freshener can. I bought one for my sister's home because she doesn't smoke and she says the difference is amazing. The smoke is zapped away and the air is much fresher.

This candle lasts quite a while. It's expensive at around $13.00 and I would never consider paying that much for a little candle if it wasn't very special. This is. It stops my allergy in its tracks and removes all traces of smoke from my home. The label suggests using the candle in a smoking room as it removes cigar and cigarette smoke from the air. I believe it. This candle works and has saved a lot of grief. I hate that rancid smoke smell and can tell immediately if someone from eBay or elsewhere smokes just by opening a package scent to me. There is no getting around that odor especially for someone with allergies and who isn't around smoke at all.

    My Viewpoint

This candle actually removes smoke odors. It doesn't cover them up. It works well and it works every time. I have nothing but love for it. 5 stars.

  13. candles and febreeze but don't febreez candles! poosh! fire

  14. Burn candles (any kind) and ventilate ventilate ventilate.

  15. Well,

As a smoker, it is really in everything porous. So you might try masking the odor for your guests for starters. Vanilla is a great mask

for temporary quick fixes.  In addition, you may try some bowls of

vinegar, but if they get knocked over, It's going to smell like the Easter Bunny was by. So, try the Vanilla candles and put them all around before you have this invite. When guests arrive make sure you limited

these candles as nobody likes the smell of a lot of burning candles.

It makes the room very stuff. For the bigger picture here. Start by wiping down all of your walls and your ceiling, especially the carpet

where odors really settle. This is just a quick tip...

Enjoy your guests coming and have a good time.

  16. ya lol smoke is hard to get rid of. get carpet powder (stuff that makes the carpets smell good after you vacuum) and tell your hubby to quit killing himself or do it elsewhere. gl

  17. no more smoking in the house unless he is on fire tell him that.

  18. Your best bet would be airing it out.

And using a natural odor neutralizer like baking soda.

  19. Try getting a carpet cleaning company to come, or see if there is a local industrial cleaning company, there is one by me. they can come by and clean everything off so when the sunlight hits it and the smells come out its not as bad. "as bad" youll never get the smoking smell out of your house completely, its porbably in the wood and everything.

  20. aside from masking the odor it will just take time and a good airing, paint will help but most of the smell is in materials like rugs, furniture, etc.  time and ventilation

  21. Cleaning everything for starters curtains carpet upholstery and you can spray some Ozium it is the only thing that will work and then cook some cinnamon in some boiling water.

  22. I would put a fresh coat of paint on the walls, wash all curtains, and use a fabric freshener on your furniture and clean the carpets.   Good luck on quitting.  I have just hit my 4 year mark of being smoke free!!

  23. Sprinkle your carpet with a scented carpet powder, let sit for 30 minutes, and vacuum.

Also, place cinnamon in corners and remove before your company comes.

  24. the only real way to get rid of odor is with expensive stuff like charcoal thingys. other stuff just covers up the smell or numbs your nose

  25. Sounds odd, but wash the walls with a lemon scented soap.  Take down all your drapes and wash them.  Since you hate fabreeze, mix 1 part liquid fabric softener with 5 parts water.  Use this to spray the couches/chairs.  And make sure that where he's smoking isn't by an open window.  Also, get those glade scented oil candles.  They're awesome and cover large areas.

And good luck with quitting!  It's REALLY hard!  It's 2 weeks for me today and I'm still having nic-fits from time to time.

  26. Add more smells.

Odors that attach themselves to walls and items must be cleaned and then you can layer on more smells.

Curries, insence, other smoke products, (as much as you don't like it Fabreeze, candles, dog, etc.

Eventually the smoke odor will be in the background and not be the primary odor.

    Good luck.

  27. move

  28. The nicotine is embedded in the curtains, carpet, etc. It is everywhere.

Most likely it won't go away by tomorrow.

  29. open windows, cut up apples and put in room, then put baking soda on carpet vacuum real good. it will take awhile for the oder to leave.

    I know I'm a ex-smoker of 7 years and I did smoke for 25 years!

  30. We just bought a new house were the lady who used to own it smoked inside and the house stank! And the walls were yellow with the tar! What we did was we openned all the windows and had inscents all around the house the get ride of the smell! Go luck quiting!
