  1. hi

  2. Hi, I'm American but I live in Italy.  Unfortunately, I have never been to Coggiola or Biella.  Coggiola is in the province of Biella.  Will you have a car while in Turin or be traveling with local transportation?  You can take the train from Turin to Biella (the Italian train website is www.trenitalia.it) and then take a bus or taxi to Coggiola.  Or maybe one of your mother's relatives could pick you up at the train station in Biella.   I don't know how far Coggiola is from Biella though.  Try asking help on the Italian Yahoo Answers page.

    "Mi potete aiutare, per favore?

Sono straniera e questo dicembre viaggerò a Torino.  Vorrei andare a Coggiola (BI), il paese dove è nata mia madre, ma non so come arrivarci.  Mi potete spiegare il metodo migliore per arrivare a questo paese, sia in treno che in macchina.  Per favore, potete scrivere in inglese?  Grazie."

    "Could you please help me?

I am foreign and will be travelling to Turin this December.  I would like to go to Coggiola, the town my mother was born at, but I don't know how to get there.  Could you please explain to me the best way to arrive there by train or car.  Could you please answer me in English?  Thanks."

P.S  Put it under the section "Travel - Italian cities---Torino or Biella or Piemonte regione".

    Good luck.

  3. I live not far from Coggiola; the easiest way is: take the train from Turin to Vercelli (a small trip, and being Vercelli on the very important Torino-Milano-Venezia route there's a couple of trains every hour).

    http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Go out from Vercelli railway station, the bus station is just on the right, and you can buy tickets on a small newsstand/tobacconist in the building adjacent to the railway station: just follow the sidewalk, you can easily find both. The tickect seller is just *between* the railway station and the bus station.

You can buy a ticket to Coggiola, there, but you have to change in Borgosesia.

http://www.atapspa.it/ is the site for ATAP (the provinces-owned bus agency for trips inside the provinces of Biella and Vercelli; till the begin of the 90s the province of Biella was part of the province of Vercelli)

    Here http://www.atapspa.it/mercurio/Orari/Ora...

put Vercelli (partenza) and Coggiola (arrivo) click Enter, then write the date (day/month/year).

You can also narrow the search by time (Fascia Oraria) and Attesa Coincidenza, the waiting time for the connection ("Meno di..." = "Less than....")

"Click on Ricerca per fermate" (since there's no "Connessione Diretta" between Vercelli and Coggiola) and choose Vercelli Autostazione and one of the two stops in Coggiola. Click on "Conferma" and wait (really, WAIT! The site here seems to be really slow...)

"Visualizza Ritorno" will give you the same for going back to Vercelli form Coggiola.

"Rivendite" is a search for place where ticket are sold, "Ricerca Fermate" is a search for bus stops.

Or you can download the full schedules (pdf format):

    http://www.provincia.vercelli.it/traspor...

    (Vercelli - Borgosesia - Varallo - Alagna)

    http://www.provincia.vercelli.it/traspor...

    (Vallemosso - Borgosesia)

    "Feriale" = working days

"Festivi" = holyday days (including all Sundays)

It's easier to do a search than to explain, actually :)

If you can give a specific date a could give some further advice, anyway.

Edit: you can reach Borgosesia also by train: from Turin to Novara, then from Novara to Borgosesia by train or by getting a "Baranzelli" bus just outside the station (the ones headed either to Varallo Sesia or Alagna): because of an agreement with Trenitalia, Baranzelli bus schedules are listed in Trenitalia site (but you have to buy the ticket onboard) along with train ones (you'll se autobus shaped icons). Or look at Baranzelli site http://www.baranzelli.it/azienda.html on the Alagna - Novara and Alagna - Varallo - Novara - Milano lines. Click on "Autolinee", the first star from the left.

But from railway station in Borgosesia you have to walk for, I think, 10 to 15 minutes in order to reach the bus stop, while if you take the bus from Vercelli to Borgosesia, you can get off at the same stop where you can wait for the bus to Coggiola (the stop in Borgosesia is the one in corso Vercelli; you could just ask the driver).

What I mean (perhaps I didn't explained it well) there's no railway station in Coggiola, not anymore, so you need a bus.

So, take the train form Turin to Vercelli, take the bus to Borgosesia, then in Borgosesia take the bus to Coggiola. From Borgosesia to Coggiola there are 13 Kilometers.

Reaching Vercelli from Turin is not a problem, as I said; so, just do as I suggested and here http://www.atapspa.it/mercurio/Orari/Ora...

put a date (just now 2008 seems not to work, but I don't think the schedule will change for Janaury 11 or 12) choose "Tutte" on Fascia Oraria and "Meno d tre ore" on Attesa Coincidenze, click on Ricerca per Fermate, then choose Vercelli Autostazione and one of the two in Coggiola, click Conferma, and you get all the choices for Vercelli to Coggiola.

Clicking on the lens you get more details.

    For instance:

    13:25   VERCELLI AUTOSTAZIONE

    14:20   BORGOSESIA C.SO VERCELLI, 151 S.ROCCO

    14:36   BORGOSESIA C.SO VERCELLI, 151 S.ROCCO

14:53   COGGIOLA VIA GARIBALDI, 24 MUNICIPIO

means you have to wait 16 minutes in Borgosesia.

Otherwise you can call a taxi, but is expensive; I once took a taxi from Novara to Borgosesia, it was 80 €uro. Or there are car rental services in Borgosesia and in Quarona (near Borgosesia, that one for sure also with driver). Just in case you get lost in Borgosesia :)

    13017 Quarona (VC) - 17/BIS, CORSO P. ROLANDI

    tel: 0163 430314

Of course if somebody can pick you up, a good compromise would be Turin - Novara - Borgosesia by train.
