How to get to a good beach from the town of Lahaina on Maui

We will be stopping by cruise ship in the town of Lahaina for a day and we want to get to a good beach for the day. We have already been to Maui before and so already did the downhill bike ride, the winery, the road to Hana, IO Park, and just about everything else. So we need to know what good beach we can get to from Lahaina that has some services, like a bathroom, and is easy to get to and back from, i.e. has transportation available (like a public bus).

  1. There is no good public transportation on Maui, so you should take a taxi.  Kihei is 45 minutes from Lahaina and Kaanapali is 10 minutes from Lahaina, so Kaanapali Beach is the place for you to go.  (Or you could just walk to the beach at the south end of Lahaina behind the 505 Front Street shopping center, but that is not nearly as good as Kaanapali Beach.)

Here is a web page about Kaanapali Beach:

  2. All beaches are public--you just can't use any of the amenities.  Many of the Kaanapali beaches have open bars and restaurants, and you may want to do that for awhile during the hot part of the mid-day.  I think there's a shuttle b/t Lahaina and Kaanapali, otherwise a tax is fairly cheap.  Beaches have outdoor facilities (such as they are).

  3. There are some stunning beaches below Lahaina. They lack great services, port oh potty, but they are beautiful and not crowded.

I believe this was Ukumehame Beach Park. It was amazing.

  4. Yes...Ka'anapali Beaches are the way to go...as far as having to stay at one of the Hotels to use the Beach...the answer is NO..All Beaches are Public Beaches in Hawai'i now. If you want a specific area with all of the amenities you are asking about, just go to Whalers Village Shopping Mall (it's Outdoors) walk all the way through to the back of the Mall, there you will find a Very Nice Stretch of Ka'anapali Beach to hang out on for the day, plus there are Restrooms and Places to eat, whether you want a To Go Sandwich or a Sit-Down Meal...it is there...I love 'Hula Grill' and 'Leilanis' personally, but there is also a Fast-Food Court. As someone else mentioned there isn't a good Public Transportation System to the Beaches on Maui like on Oahu, so Yes take a Cab from Lahaina to Whalers Village, other than that~~Aloha,Enjoy and E Komo Mai~~Michelle~~

  5. You could go to Kihei that has a public bus and alot of great beaches or to Kanapali which has amazing beaches as well and has the hotels with great restaurants and facilities. Aloha!
