What is the cheapest way to get to ireland from usa? I have been looking at flights and am not sure what is the best way to go. I was told that if you could avoid it not to land in London. Is that true. Would it be cheaper to fly to london and then ferry across to Ireland. Oh I will be going in November.

Thanks for your help

  1. Yes you should try and avoid London's Heathrow airport.  It is extremely crowded and many many flights land and take off.

The cheapest way to fly from USA would be to fly from New York or Boston and fly on Delta or Aer Lingus (the Irish National Carrier.)  You can fly non-stop from either Boston or New York to Dublin which is the capital of Ireland.

Dublin is also becomming a city by which Aer Lingus has flights to many major European cities.

This would be your best and easiest bet.  It is always better to try and have a non-stop or direct flight with no plane changes than having to worry about connecting in another city.

Also the airfares should be somewhat lower in Novwmber as the high tourist season is over by then.

  2. You can pretty much fly from anywhere in USA to anywhere in Ireland. Daily direct flights leave from Belfast and Dublin, and I'm fairly sure there's a few from Shannon airport as well.

  3. Yes you should avoid London.... And if you do land in London the ferry to Ireland is on the other side Britain (in Wales) so you would have to get another connecting flight and most of the London airports are bug and busy so you should try to get a direct flight.....

To find the cheapest flight all depends witg who and when.... the best way to find the cheapest flight go to www.ebookers.com and enter you detalis.....

    Hope this helps :)

  4. there are usually great deals from Aer Lingus in the autumn on flights from the USA. They fly directly to NY, Boston, Washington, Chicago, LA   and Atlanta.  Try the website          Aerlingus.com.    They land at 2 airports in Ireland,  Shannon on the west of the country  and Dublin on the eastern seaboard.    Don't forget to pack a raincoat.

  5. DON'T FLY TO LONDON!! Fly Aer Lingus, they're the cheapest.  Depending on where you're flying from, you might have to get a connecting flight (aer lingus flights leave from NY, Chicago, Boston, and for a short time longer, Los Angeles).

If you can't fly Aer Lingus, try Continental or Delta.  It's usually easier to go directly to their websites.

Also, if you're flying to the western half of Ireland, it might be better to get off in Shannon (it will be the same price.)  The airport is smaller and it's easy to catch a bus outside.
