  1. I would suggest you work in a bridal shop first so that you can hear where people are having their wedding and who is planning etc.  You can get a lot of information this way and then know different styles of gowns etc ~ all this puts you over the top as a planner

Also, you can plan my wedding if you would like

I  would like a "Great Gatsby" style wedding and would like it to have a more winter wonderland affect

Something very mature, modern/classical, but fashionable

    Small in attendance

Let me know if you need more info.

    Oh colors

I would like sparkle tones and really not much color unless you find something that puts it over the top

    Thanks

  2. My daughter and I are wedding planners.  We both took the wedding planning course from Stratford Career Institute.  We have been in business for about 2 years and have done fairly well.  It is great fun being a wedding planner/consultant.

We do have our share of "bridezillas" however, so you will have to think about that as well.

I have included our website for you to look at.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us.

    Best wishes to you.

  3. I have looked into event planning myself, because I want to get involved in running fundraiser events for charity. You can actually be a certified event planner with about 1 year of school.

Most programs have a set list of courses to teach you how to plan any type of event, like event planning basics (marketing, PR, logistics, running an event planning business, etc) and then you choose certain courses to specialize (Wedding planning or non-profit fundraising, Volunteer management). So you can specialize in Wedding planning if you choose.

The thing with the wedding industry is it is very experience-based, so if you need to get a certificate/professional training so that people will take you seriously and it will allow exposure to the industry. Most importantly, being a wedding planner is more than just picking colours and helping couples decide on a caterer.  It's running a business, so you have to file taxes, manage cash flow and take care of marketing and daily business operations details.

Some programs are 1 year full-time, but I'm doing a fundraising/non-profit development certificate part-time (one evening course a week per term) so it will take me a couple years. I'm doing it this way because I need to be working full-time to make money and save for my own upcoming wedding.

Look into training/certificates at your local community college. The program I am taking is a continuing education program, so you need either 3 years of direct experience, a college diploma or a university degree (I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in honours history and business). But most full-time college programs do not require this.

I just found this article written by a wedding planner too:

    Good Luck!

  4. here is an idea...

    this is my dream wedding..

my colors would be black, ivory, and a deep red. it would be held halloween. the ceremony would be like a regular wedding with the white dress and tux's no masks or costumes. but then at the reception would be the big halloween party.  have fun.. i am not getting married anytime soon but i thought you would love to pratice this one.. :)

  5. my dream wedding for you to plan:

late summer or early fall when the weather is cool

    outdoors

night time wedding with candle light lining the path to the alter and the whole area

cocktail reception before the ceremony so everyone is relaxed, serve light food so no one is starving

    ceremony around 8 -9

    followed by dinner, dancing, cake

maybe end the night with fireworks

  6. I would suggest that you compete your education - especially learning how to communicate, read and write in the English language. Once you have a solid grasp of the language and a business degree, you can open a variety of businesses.
