How to get vhs video onto a computer?

i have a video on vhs that i want on my computer. i found a thing called a dazzle 150 in my house and i think it has something to do with converting analog to digital. if there is anything else that i could do/use to do that please let me know

That is correct, the Dazzle is an analog (VHS, TV signal) to digital converter. You need a digital file to store the movie on your computer.

The Dazzle should connect to your computer via serial port, firewire port, or USB. You connect the video out of your VCR or videocam to the dazzle. There should be some software with it. In the software you will find controls to capture the video. Start the video, turn the capture on, and it should record all the video input to an .mpg file.

However, the Dazzle is notoriously slow as any external video capture device would be. The best way to do this is install a video capture card in your computer. I use the Turtle Beach VideoAdvantage. It is a low cost video capture card, not for high end work but - affordable.
