My digital camcorder uses 8cm disks and I want to put videos that I record onto the computer. The camcorder does not have a spot to plug directly into the computer. It does say "DVD +RW/-RW/-R Compatible" on the camcorder.

  1. DVD camcorders don't use firewire!

Start by finalising the DVD in the camcorder and then putting it in your PC's drive. If you've got an editor that can handle DVD footage it will be able to read the DVD and copy it to your hard drive.  Windows Movie Maker can't edit it - you can rip the footage with DVDDecrypter and then convert it to wmv with Super.

  2. Leave the miniDVD in the camcorder.  Connect your camcorder to the computer via a firewire, i.Link, IEEE 1394 cable.  Use a video editing program to capture the video to the computer's hard drive.  Windows Move Maker comes free in Windows, and iMovie come free on a Mac
