How to get videos from my camcorder?

i have a sony steadyshot CCD-TRV608 NTSC camcorder, and the program given to me (pixela image mixer) gets the videos in poor quality with no sound. is there any other way to get the videos off of the camera and onto my computer?

  2. You can try using software like Quicktime Pro ($30) to try and capture the video at a better resolution, but your best bet is to get a Digital8 camcorder.   They are available from Sony in many different models and prices from economical to very advanced.

    Digital8 cameras will be able to read your Hi-8 tapes.  Plus, the camcorder has a Firewire port for connecting your camcorder to your computer.  You can the use Windows Movie Maker in Windows or iMovie in iLife on a Mac to capture the video with sound in the best standard definition quality.   You can then edit the videos and save them to DVD or upload them to your website or a site like YouTube.

    Either way, you should also get an external hard drive (preferably a 500gb USB model for $100).   The external hard drive will store your captured video while you edit it a well as store your finished movies.
