How to get your dog to go through its doggy door?

Question

My dog is a little bushon/maltese and is too scared to go through her doggy door? I have tried to get her to come through using food but nothing seems to work!

Has anyone have any ideas? Any advice will could help!

1.let a  toy go through ,your dog may be will follow;

2.put a mirror in dog's room,

3.use a cloth to cover your dog's eye,and you lead him in some times.

Thank goodness for doggy doors. It is a lot easier to train a puppy if there are two people. One on the inside and one on the outside. Coaxing and treats help a lot. I have had only one puppy that would not, and still will not push the door open. She got hit in the face the first time she tried it and now won't even try to push it open. We have to hold it open for her to go out and to come back in. That is the only one that I ever had that didn't pick up how to use it within a few minutes.

food is a good start! have your dog on one side with you on the other, then call the dog and offer him a treat to go through the door. do that enough and the dog will get the hang of it.

If the above answers don't work,tape the door up for afew days,once she is used to going thru without the door hitting her slowly let it down

do you know someone who has a similar sized dog that would go through it. Dogs learn well through influence of other dogs, so if your dog sees another dog go through the dog door, it may be inclined to go through it as well.
