  1. Go to bike shop get sized and an idea what you want, then buy one used, a whole lot cheaper that way.

  2. there are a much wider variety of bikes available now, as compared to 45 years ago, but the priciples are the same. I would recomend visiting a few different bike shops, and discussing with the pros what type of riding youre considerring. when you say trails, I'm assuming gravel roads and bike paths, not technical single track. most likely you'll be fitted to a medium sized hybrid. these bikes are somewhere between a mountainbike and a road bike, some are more road oriented, some more MTB. the folks at te shop will also want to know if you're looking for suspension, multiple gears, etc. they'll go over how everything works and make sure it is fitted to you. expect to pay between $300-$600 for an inexpensive, entry-mid level bicycle. without fitting the bike, you will be uncomfortable riding, and we wouldn't want you to wait another 45 years to ride again!

  3. Go to a bike shop, they can tell you anything and everything you want about bikes and they will fit you to the right type of bicycle for your needs. We can't do those things on Y!A.

  4. Check the local bike shops in your area. Many have a selection of used bikes for sale.  Buying from a bike shop would be less of a gamble than buying some junker at a yard sale. The type of bike you get will depend of your riding style, terrain travelled, personal preference, etc. Your local bike shop can help you figure out which style of bike is best for your needs and will get you properly fitted.

The bike shop will also be there for maintenance and repairs.
