How to go about ghost hunting..?

Okay, well I'm pretty sure i know what i wanna be when i grow up;;

&& that's to be a ghost hunter. i dont know what they call itt..but anyways, tonight i went to a cemetery with a few friends close to my house that's "haunted" and what not, but i cant be in one, without getting scared, && i loveeee doing this kind of stuff. && we took pictures && i got a few orbs in the pictures && one picture had a face kinda thing in it, && i freaked out about that too..&& i really wanna be a ghost hunter but i dont know what to do about my scared problem.

btw, i am kinda youngg, && cant get a job yet, but i really wanna do this like just as a hobbie to go to cemetreys or haunted places && just take pictures or somethingg.

That's very cool - but if you're interested in being a ghost hunter understand that you'll still have a 'real job' to pay the bills - hunting is a hobby / secondary job for 99% of the people who do it.

If you live in a major metro, try to find a local paranormal group and meet up with them.  They're usually happy to bring people along and teach them the tools of the trade.

To expose yourself a bit to the scientific debunking approach of Ghost Hunting, go buy the first few seasons of a Sci Fi show called 'Ghost Hunters'.  There's some extra 'drama' stuff in there for TV, but it will give you a good introduction (and I love the show).

Well, since ghosts don't really exist outside of movies and television, it will be interesting for you.

The hunters on tv are fake.  That is scripted.

The ones you can hire out of the yellow pages are frauds and con-artists.  They should be in jail.

For most people, this is a hobby, not a job.

We don't charge anyone for our services.

Before our group starts and investigation, we have a brief meeting and discuss the claims of the client.

Those in the group that are more knowledgeable in certain fields (electricity, plumbing, HVAC) will investigate the basement and attic areas. They are looking for wiring that isn't insulated, causing high EMF readings.

That can cause one to feel nauseous, paranoid like someone is watching them, and the hairs on your arms or neck to stand up on end.

They also check for potential gas leaks,  CO2 poisoning, and areas of mold build up.

One or two people in our group will research the property and the grounds. They will also include a geological survey of the property.

We always start our investigations with an open mind.

By previous cases, we can find common denominators and start with those areas.

A good portion of our cases, the culprit of the hauntings are the high EMF's, the plumbing, or wood flooring that contracts and expands due to heat and humidity.

In one case, some kids were deliberately attempting to scare their step mother out of the house.

So you'll be debunking the pranksters as well.

well first of all don't listen to the people that will tell that ghost don't exist.because they do.i have been ghost hunting for 5 yrs now.not as a job,but as a Hobie.all i take with me is a digital camera,and a voice recorder.always remember to respect the dead.that's the # 1 rule in ghost hunting.when you go to take pictures first ask them for permission.and tell them when your about to start taking pictures. i promise you will get more proof.as far as being scared,it will get easier.but the rush you get from being scared is what we like about ghost hunting.right!well good luck and always be careful and NEVER ghost hunt alone.long live the ghost hunter.

Being afraid is not a bad thing but if you can't control your fear then you need to look for another career.  Even the ghost hunters had 'day' jobs to support what they do.

Stay in school and learn.  One of the most important abilities a ghost hunter needs is to be able to study and know how to gather and secure evidence.  Knowing other languages and being able to do research are also helpful.

Maybe you need to consider a job in law enforcement with a side hobby of studying religious history and mythology.

And remember if you know something is isn't any good unless you can communicate it to others.  Learn to speak and write effectively so you can pass on what you learn.  Studying photography is a great start as well as a supportive skill.

well the best way to go about doing it would be to always go with a group of people, not only to put you at ease a bit but also for your safety, especially in cemetaries you never know what kind of living people are in there that can hurt you. Also know that ghosts are just made up of energy they cant hurt you no matter how mad you get them. If you are over 16 my group conducts classes if you would be interested, but if not then i would suggest you find a group of friends you trust and go out with them, well thats all i got so hope i helped at least a little bit.

I have never hunted for ghosts--they seem to find me! Loved ones don't visit, but the entities that do seem to have some purpose. I take the visitations in stride, with an objective, scientific eye. Visits are rare, about 1 every 5 years or so, and very fascinating. Never scary. Happy hunting!

Well, you may want to reconsider. You'll never get rich as a paranormal investigator. Mostly because true paranormal investigators do NOT charge for their services. I have not found any legitimate investigators that do charge. I recently joined a local group. We do NOT charge. If you want to join a group, careful not to join just a meet up group. That is, a group that meets occasionally and does most of their investigations in a cemetery. In my group, we meet weekly, and will on rare occasion investigate a cemetery. We normally investigate commercial buildings, homes and historic sites. With most groups, you need to be 18 to join. Many groups go out and find every place they investigate haunted. Careful with those groups. We've taken hundreds of photos at some locations, only to have one or two with some possible activity. And even those we are careful to proclaim a place haunted without looking for other explanations of what it could be.  So, if anyone in the metro Detroit area has thought about joining a group, we're looking for one or two more people. Just contact us from our web site. And anyone can join our forum for discussions.

It's called a Paranormal Investigator, and I wouldn't advise doing it without an experienced medium. You'll have a really hard time in that field if you get scared just by going into a graveyard. Orbs are sometimes caused by dust or pollen.

You need to find a mentor who can "instruct" you and help you get over your fear. Even adults get scared when they are in some creepy abandoned place, so your totally not alone. Find someone who can help you, GET YOUR PARENTS PERMISSION so that you don't get your "instructor" in trouble (especially legal trouble). Google paranormal investigators in your area and see if you have a paranormal society and if they can help you out.

I want to add that real paranormal investigators DO NOT charge fees. I have known some who do accept donations to cover fuel and equipment costs but never is payment required. The Paranormal Society I am involved with, our services are 100% free. Even if someone were to charge, who the h**l could afford it? None of our clients! We even help out local teens who opt for ghosthunting as their senior projects in school!

Read some physics books and study the history of science (particularly how humans have the uncanny ability to explain something they don't understand by inventing the existence of 'ghosts' or anything else supernatural).

Also interesting is the way the human brain processes data. Much of what we think we see and hear is actually our brain filling in the gaps using beliefs, mentality, biases and experience.

I hope I don't have to point out that the 'ghost hunting' programs on television are just for entertainment purposes only and should not be interpreted as educational or, heaven forbid, scientific.

First of all it is called paranormal investigating just so you know! :)

Just try not to think about the fear. This one paranormal investigator said that one of his clients daughters threatened to stab him, he was really scared because two psychics told him about a possible stabbing but he still finished the case no matter how scared he was. Just try to overcome your fear. I lived in a haunted house but I still slept in my own room because my parents worked early so I didn't want to wake them up, I ignored everything. If you go with more people, maybe you won't be so scared. It is more frightening when your alone. If you catch something instead of saying this is to scary I can't do it say this is interesting. Maybe in the future when your more experienced you can form your own group!
