I've been working at marshalls for about two weeks and i've realized that it's really not the place for me. Before working there I worked at delias for a month or so durign the holiday but never asked to stay longer because of school.....now a week ago i found out delias was hiring again so i turned in the app and dd the interview and just found out (a day ago) that i got the job back and i'm starting next week!

now i need to quit marshalls! i would have done it sooner but i wasnt positive that i was going to get the job at delias....so now i'm stuck because i know that when i quit my notice will only be a couple days :/ Is that a bad thing? and how should i go about quitting marshalls?

  1. call them right now or tell them as soon as possible  they will find someone else soon as they can. that's all you can do. unless you want to ask the other place to allow you to give proper two week notice. they may like you better for it. good luck. be happy.

  2. Are you casual? In Australia casual workers don't have to give any notice to quit but your employer will be less annoyed at you leaving so quickly if you write a letter of resignation. Look it up online for examples.

  3. set traps and spit in thier tea but remember don't burn your bridges

  4. just say i need some time off

  5. Just let Marshals now that you applied for both at approx. the same time. You took this position but The other position has come thru and it has more growth opportunity for you. Really try to stay away from money. Say growth and more hours..but don't use money.

Thank them for the opportunity and let them know when you will be starting. Work right up until they don't need you and your new job begins.

Burning bridges is a BAD thing. BUT do not jeopardize this new position. It sounds early enough in your life that it is ok to jump to a new job.

But don't make habit of it .. keep your resume strong with lengthy stays at one position ! MGRS love that !

Good luck at your new job !

  6. i have been a manager for many years. just tell them that you are quitting. your boss won't give it a second thought.

  7. tell them asap. its wrong just to leave a job with out letting anyone know!

  8. Well you are in a catch 22 right now. If you ever want Marshalls back, or if you want them as a reference in the future, then you need to put in a 2 week notice and let Delias know you have to start in 2 weeks. However, that can put the Delias job at risk. So you have to decide which job is more important on your reseme/ reference and go from there. Since you say you'd rather have Delias, then I'd just cut Marshalls as a loss. But don't do that often because you need to build job references. You won't be working at the same job forever. It is good to stay at one job for at least 2 years.

  9. tell them you're quitting in a few days. give them some notice at least.

  10. The professional approach would be to explain to Delias that you must offer a 2 week notice to Marshalls.  Delias will think much better of your character for being most professional.  When resigning from Marshalls explain to them that you received a better offer, and I am sure they will understand.  Do not just dump Marshalls!  Perhaps Marshalls will let you "off the hook" and release you sooner. Think and act appropriately.

  11. Tell your boss that you've been offered another job and find out how long the notice is, if it overlaps with the day you start your new job, im sure if you contact your new boss and explain that to them they would be fine letting you start a couple of days later

    Good luck :)

  12. You've only been there for two weeks so it's not that big of a deal.  Tell them NOW (if you don't work today, call and speak to your manager).  Tell them you recieved a better job offer, when your start date is at your new job (you don't have to tell them where) and that your last day with Marshalls will be the day before.  Apologize profusely.  But I don't think that is too bad.  You haven't been there for very long.
