How to go about staining a deck...?

I had a deck built back in June and I'm finally ready to stain it. What kind of stain would be best and how to I go about doing it. Never done this before

  1. You have to sand it then stain it the put a sealer on it Good Luck


  2. Go to either Lowe's or Home Depot...they have professionals that will be more than happy to help you out and point you in the right direction.  Good luck...and don't forget, take before & after pics :)

Get a good outdoor cleaner, Slimy Green/Slipery Black, or a mild bleach cleaner solution, you want to make sure you kill any mold or mildew, that might be in the wood, that you may not be able to see, I would give it a light sanding, just to "rough up" the surface, open up the pores of the wood, wipe away all dust and debris, I have used, and I highly recomend a product called CWF-UV, made by flood, It is a sealant that works GREAT! It comes clear or it can be slightly tinted, and I think it even comes in cedar color too. It is latex based, so it is easy soap and water clean-up.  You can buy a 5 gallon bucket of it for around $75-$80. (That will give you over 2000 square feet of coverage, and you don't need to re-apply for about 4-5 years)
