Hello, I am 13 (going to be 14 in one month today) and I have taken interest in contortion since I have been atleast 10. At that time, my mom would only let me take dance. Dont get me wrong I love dance and now my mom has opened up and is willing to get me classes. I cannot find any places in the area that offer contortion. Does anyone know where or how to go about traning? Would it be best to hire somebody?

I am flexible and I strech every single day for atleast one hour, but I would like to bring my flexiblity to the highest levels it can allow.

I am not asking if I can learn it or anything because I know I can

put my mind up to do anything, but please any ideas on how to go about this?

  1. Look for gymnastics classes. If you don't find any, check out yoga classes. Ballet classes should also be good for you, but I assume that's what you are taking.

I think there are extra schools for circus arts and at least offer things like camps. If you don't find anything locally look if you can find something which offers a camp of limited duration. You can go to and get instruction on what to practice and continue practice at home. Google "circus arts" and look where and what classes are on offer. Below a random link which offers classes in contortion. Don't know where you are located, but you can google for your area yourself. Have fun.

  2. Well I'm not sure of where you live, but in Canonsburg Pennsylvania there is a dance/contortion center called Dance Extensions Performing Arts Center where they teach , obviously, contortion and other styles of dances  such as, jazz, comtemporary, tumbling, tap, lyrical, hip hop, and they have pilates. I'm telling you, they are very strong in contortion, and they incorporate very well in dancing too. They have performances, conventions, etc. I was going to go myself but unfortunately I live in New York. But if you want to look at some of their videos, go to youtube and look up  starcreator . I'll give you the rest of their info. Hope I helped, and I hope you go far with your passion. Besty Shuttleworth is the director and the head instructor I believe.

    Sincerely Yours,

    Rolanda

  3. If you can contact a gymnastics coach, he or she may be able to recommend someone in your area.  Here are links to different gymnastics organizations: http://groups.msn.com/gymnastics/usa.msn...
