Question:

How to go about this whole motorcycle thing? I'm a little lost...?

I'm female, 19 years old and I want to learn to ride and buy a motorcycle.

Unfortunately, my parents do not back me up on this decision so I can not get any help from them financially or advice-wise.

My car insurance company is 21st century, & I think that they will have to be my insurance company for my motorcycle, too, since I have been in 2 accidents, right?

So, my question is: how do I go about all of this? Do I

1. Call the insurance company to get a quote about adding motorcycle insurance to my car insurance.

2. Get my permit and motorcycle license.

3. Find the right bike for me and buy it.

4. Start paying the insurance company for both the insurance on my car and motorcycle.

Is this what I have to do? I'm lost about this whole thing... right now my parents pay for my car insurance, but I will have to pay for the insurance on my motorcycle. Can I get two different insurance companies? Or can I switch it all together? I'm not sure how this insurance thing works...

HELP!!

  1. You are starting off in the right direction - do your research!

You don't say what state your in - so i can only tell you about NC. Visit a motorcycle shop, they can tell you about classes you can take. Ours are usually 3 days, you ride their bike on a closed course with instructors. They teach you how to ride and there is classroom work and a test. (It was 120.00 here) When you complete it you have a certificate that lets you go to the DMV and take the written test to get your license.  If you don't take the class you go to the DMV, take the written test and get a permit. (Stop by and pick up a rule book first) Some insurance companies will give you a discount if you take the safety class.

Many insurance companies do not insure motorcycles, call them and ask. I think Geico does. You can also ask this at the motorcycle shop. We have separate policies with different companies.

    1 - take the class

    2 - get the quote

    3 - get the license

4 - find the bike that fits you (you may need to have the grips, handlebars, foot pegs etc adjusted). and the gear

5 - make sure your medical & life insurance are paid and start you motorcycle insurance

6 - buy the bike & the gear

    7 - BE CAREFUL..and have fun!!!!

    Good luck!
