  1. The first two answers provide the information you need. I just wanted to point out, in case you didn't know, that Monaco, though nearly surrounded by France, is actually not a French town but an independent city state, of sorts: "Monaco is the world's most densely populated country and second-smallest independent nation; with a population of just 32,410 and an area of 1.96 square kilometres (485 acres), Monaco is the world's smallest French-speaking country."

  2. it would take you ages by bus, I advise you to take the train (TGV).

  3. You can choose between

Speedway (have to rent a car / expensive and very long)

    Train TGV (very fast / quite expensive / 5hr / 120€ / direct)

Train Classic (not that fast / not that cheap 7hr / 110€ / change once)

    Plane (nearest airport 37km)

    No regular bus

  4. Trans leave from the Gare de Lyon  several times a day that will get you to Monaco. Some require you change trains at Nice or Marseille and others travel direct.

  5. I would say you would get on the TGV train and be there in about 3 hours.

  6. I would recommend--time and money allowing--to take the TGV down to Marseilles and then rent a car there and drive to Monaco. There are many beautiful and famous towns along the way. If you take the coast the whole way, it will take you quite some time as the traffic isn't the best.

Otherwise, take the TGV to Marseille and take the train to Monaco. You still get some of the Riviera view and it takes less time and is less hassle.
