How to go off a jump and do a 50 50 off of a box correctly on a snowboard?

I've been snowboarding on slopes for 5 years and never dared to try the terrain park. I really have always wanted to, but didn't want to end up paralyzed from breaking my neck. I have tried a small box before and the first time across it i made it, the send time i slipped and fell on my back, and after that I haven't tried anything like it again. Im very good at just snowboarding down slopes, I normally spend all my time on black and double black diamonds.

Im trying to get over my fear and learn how to do jumps, rails, boxes, etc. So can anyone tell me the correct way to go off/land a jump and how to ride a box or do a 50 50 on it?

Videos on youtube would be helpful, I can't find any though.

Thanks!

  1. I would reccomend getting a helmet, it made me not as afraid to fall.  If you tell yourself that you are going to get over that rail/jump then it builds your confidence and it is easier to do.  Just the other day I went over a jump bad and ended up going down and hitting my head, but it really didn't hurt because of the helmet.  Even if you slip and fall, go for it again, it takes practice.  Start slow, and then once you got that down go faster.

  2. first get confidant jumping and 50-50s. another vital part of this move is a ollie. practice those on the ground or just going down a hill. when confertable ollieing, 50-50s, and jumping put them togethr scope you line before you hit anything makeing sure that the landing isn't icy and the jump is built correct. i like to watch at most 3 riders hit the rail. aproach the rail with confidance. try not to turn 5 feet from the rail try to stay flat on your board. when you come off the jump ollie a little just to keep your balance on the rail.  keep your knees bent and look towards the end on the rail because naturally you board will want to go where you look. when aproaching the end of the rail keep your nose down but don't lean back to much becaue you will slip out and maybe hit the rail.

    good luck

  3. First of all, Get some protection. Like everyone else said, Get a helmet. Kneepads and shin pads will also help a lot, as i was afraid to do anything on those boxes just because i was afraid that i would hit my shin on the boxes.

    Now, To do a 50-50,

~Start out slow when you first try it.

~Make sure your knees are bent you wont just trip on your board and face plant when you are landing.

~Most beginners go on park features and dont know what to do. They play it out in their heads, but when they actually get on the obstacle, they freeze! (i know i did that). spend some time practicing to gain confidence, and try it with friends. Friends will Definitely help.

~To turn ur board, simply turn your body to face the front (or back).  REMEMBER: that your board will naturally turn to become parallel with your shoulders.

These are the tips that i can give for now, as i am still learning how to do things in the terrain park also.

  4. Its all about speed, confidence and leaning forward.  If you approach a box/rail fast, your less likely to fall off.  Helmets help with confidence.  And never lean back.  I'm a skier but im sure the same goes for snowboards.

  5. Get a helmet.  It helps in case you land hard on your head.  I've fallen plenty hard on my head on the mountain, not only in the park.

I'm not sure what these people are talking about, but a basic 50-50 doesn't involve any turning...

As for jumping onto a box.  Most beginner parks with beginner boxes have lips leading right up to the box.  Therefore, you don't need to jump onto it.  Try to find one of those.  If you can't and it's only a small gap with not much of a height difference, just let your momentum carry you onto the box or jump lightly flat-footed.  Don't try ollieing up yet.

Go slow.  Once you get onto the box, stay flat and straight.  Also stay centered and balanced over your board.  Stay cool and calm.  Most people freak out and mess up.  A box is somewhat slippery once you get on it, so too much moving around will throw you off.  Keep your nose pointed towards the end of the box and just drop off at the end.

In the case that you end up moving towards the edges of the box, try jumping off instead of just dropping off.  It's a lot less awkward than just falling off the side.

Also, you might want to consider taking any forward lean off your bindings so it's easier to stay flat on the box.

You might be able to think of it this way.  50-50ing a box is just like riding a really severe flat patch of ice.  You just gotta stay flat and focus on the end.

  6. its all about confidence.... wear a helmet the next time you want to do a terrain park.

i used to do rails but have heard too many stories about people splitting their skulls open and becoming permanently retarded

  7. basically if you're riding on to a flat box off a kicker then you barely need any speed bro. im sure you heard this from other answers but make sure your on line with the box. if the kicker is aboove the box just ride on to it and keep your balance. if theres a lip then your going to have to ollie. when you land on the box keep your knees bent. keep your arms up too or it will look really trash.boxes are pretty easy to ride and you should be able to nail it your first time.

  8. i was like that before but trust me get a helmet, i dont like them but i wear it just when i jump, but whats helpful is just try to land right on the bar dont try to turn your board and get a 50 50 cuz youll just miss if you dont hit the rail just hike back up and try it again its not so much the actual rail its just how you take off, if you take off bad your prolly gonna fall so line up your take off
